Comprehensive Diagnostic Process
Your computer will go through a comprehensive diagnostic process. First we will hook up your equipment and power it on to see exactly what it is doing. We will reproduce the problems you described to us, or call you for further information. During this time we will generate a baseline to determine just how poorly your system is running and identify major issues preventing your computer from running its best.
We will disassemble your computer and inspect all the hardware components identifying bad or dirty fans and heatsinks, leaking capacitors, loose connections, loose screws and other potential issues. We then use specialized software to run multiple memory tests on your computer. This allows us to stress test your computer by putting it under a load. While the tests are running we will tap on various components in your computer, wiggle wires, and monitor temperatures. This allows us to identify any loose components or wires, and other bad connections or intermittent problems.
Once the system has been stress tested we will use more specialized software to perform an in-depth hard drive diagnostics. Your hard drive is a mechanical device that stores all your important information and programs. Our software will perform a health check verifying SMART status, stressing the drive, and performing a full scan of the drive's physical surface. This in-depth and time consuming scan will identify and lock out bad sectors on your hard drive even before they cause you problems. We are able to identify more serious problems that could jeopardize your important data before it is lost.
Lastly, we perform an in-depth search for viruses, spyware and other malware using highly specialized and proprietary methods. Our technicians are trained in advanced malware removal techniques that allow us to identify even the hardest to find malware.
At this point we have a good idea of what problems your computer is having. We have identified hardware or software issues that need to be resolved. If we are unable to reproduce or explain all your problems then we will contact you to get further details so that we can be sure we are addressing every issue you may have. We do all of this for FREE before we call you and tell you what is needed on your computer and what costs are involved. Only after you understand exactly what is going on with your computer and have made an informed decision, will we perform any repairs on your computer.
Making Your Computer Run Better Than It Ever Has
Sadly, most places will cut corners and only fix exactly what you brought your computer in for while ignoring other known issues. It is typical for them to not perform any of the maintenance your computer should have, ignore all the needed security updates and service packs, and not clean your computer's case and fans. But, we know that giving great service requires more work. We take the time to make sure every computer runs great! During the repair of your PC we:
- Resolve every known or discovered problem (Even if you didn't know about it.)
- Remove viruses and spyware
- Clear all your temporary files and clutter
- Remove un-needed or problematic programs
- Install all available service packs and Windows updates
- Update third party products such as Adobe Reader, Flashplayer and Java
- Install a suite of free software to protect against viruses, spyware, and scams
- Defrag your hard drive and system pagefile
- Install, if needed, office productivity, cd/dvd burning, and dvd player software
- Tune your system configuration for maximum performance and load times
- System restore points will be cleared out and rebuilt
- 100 PSI of compressed air will clean all the debris from fans, heatsinks, and cases
Our entire service process usually takes about 24hrs. After making your computer run better than it ever has, we will notify you that your computer is ready for pick up. We accept all major forms of payment. During pick up we will explain what services were provided on your computer, answer any questions you may have, and carry your computer to your vehicle if you'd like. We also provide you with a booklet of valuable information explaining things like how to use the security software we installed, how to keep from getting infected, and how to perform basic maintenance. We remind you that we expect your computer to work perfectly and make ourselves available to assist you if you have any questions about the services we performed. Within a couple of days we will follow up with you just to make sure you are completely satisfied with the services we have performed and answer any remaining questions.
